A bird in the cage is a metaphor for the individual integrity which is made up of your value system, beliefs and principles (the bird being fed with 3 things).
The fact that you have preserved your integrity every time makes you feel happy.
But some day you realize that that integrity is not letting you to be "free" person and you take a step ahead to feel free.
you know that the integrity is nowhere now but you are still left with your value system beliefs and principles to serve nothing.
Little do you know that the now free bird is in a bigger cage.
so now you neither feel free nor is your integrity intact and you are left with things you can only laugh upon.

I liked the concept. :) But what I did not realize is, how do you say that the bird is in a bigger cage now?
And yes, I can comment now thanks to the interpretation written. Otherwise I had no clue what the poem was about. :P
Cuppers like me, can enjoy a poem like this only by tallying it with the interpretation and the truly appreciate it. :)

you are still in the bigger cage because i feel a person can never feel free (the boundary of your integrity has changed now not destroyed). one will always be more comfortable in living in a cage.

about the interpretations. you are free to interpret anything that suits you well. The interpretation is just written if someone is left with no direction to think.
I feel no interpretation is wrong if it appeals your personal emotions. In-fact that will be the best reward :)
